There was a lot of interest in my post on last semester’s bipolar student, so I wanted to share this link to a recent New York Times article by the woman who served as the model for Claire Dane’s character in the TV series “Homeland.”  The author’s sister is a writer for the series, and the article briefly discusses what it was like to watch herself and her disease depicted on TV.

I believe that, as instructors who work with struggling students, we will encounter students with mental illness which has made learning more difficult, whether physiologically, psychologically or emotionally.  The more we learn and the better we are at dealing from a place of love and understanding, the more helpful we can be.
